These works explore hidden worlds at the molecular level. Drawing inspiration from patterns of molecular and microscopic landscapes I create this tactile expressions. Each piece is a reflection on the unseen forces that shapes our existence.
“Color Cartographies” is a series of abstract hand-tufted tapestries that explore the emotional and visual language of color as a map. Each piece charts imagined and remembered landscapes, inspired by topographies both real and symbolic. Through texture, hue, and form, these works invite viewers to navigate a space where connection, discovery, and movement come to life.
Using textile techniques as a form of expression, I approach yarn and texture as drawing tools, building layered surfaces that embody rhythm, depth, and narrative. Each tapestry captures a moment in time, translating sensory experiences into tactile compositions. The materiality of the work—its raw threads and crafted patterns—creates a dialogue between craft, landscape, and perception. By manipulating color, light, and movement, I reimagine the landscape’s aesthetics and offer a transcendent, multisensory experience that merges the pictorial with the tangible.
These drawings explore intuitive interpretations of nature, inspired by a mix of botanical, animal, and microscopic forms. They are not based on specific references but emerge as creative compositions that blur the boundaries between different natural elements.
In these pieces, textile art becomes a bridge between the natural world and human experience. Each work embodies my ongoing conversation with landscape, where threads and textures serve as a tactile language.
This mixed-media series bridges the macro and micro through a combination of hand embroidery, machine stitching, and ink on fabric. These compositions suggest profound connections between cosmic vastness and cellular intimacy, creating floating landscapes that transcend scale.
In 2015, I had the honor of participating in a carpet design competition organized by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, in collaboration with Desso Company. Designers from around the world were invited to create a unique carpet inspired by Vincent van Gogh, to be displayed in the museum’s central hall during Friday Night events.
My design was selected by a professional jury as one of the top five entries. The distinguished panel included Axel Rüger (Director of the Van Gogh Museum), Bas Kosters (designer and visual artist), Thomas Widdershoven (Creative Director of Design Academy Eindhoven), Léon Stolk (Creative Director of Bourne Design), and Roland Jonkhoff (Managing Director of Desso).
The winning design was produced by Desso and has been exhibited at the Van Gogh Museum since September 2015.
Through free-motion machine embroidery, these stitched landscapes emerge from internal reflections and geological inspirations. Each piece represents a meditation on terrain, where the rithm of the sewing machine meets my interpretation.
I see the creative process as a deliberately guided technique, capable of expressing the rhythm and emotions of the landscape I inhabit. For this mindful process to take shape, it’s essential to understand the tactile sensations of a hand-tufted tapestry as a tool for storytelling. This collection draws inspiration from the relationship between the sun and the mountains, focusing on the distinctive light found at the equator and at high altitudes. This unique light shapes the vibrant palette of my tapestries, where colors shift with changing perspectives, just as light transforms a landscape. Color becomes my language for capturing the essence of place—its singularity and atmosphere—by weaving hues in varied rhythms, tones, and textures.
Returning to my roots in Colombia, these tapestries weave narratives of the Andes Mountains, these pieces show how the mountains are part of our daily life here - they're not just a landscape, but part of who we are. Each tapestry tells a story about my homeland and how these mountains connect us all.
My work, often times weaves together the natural world and intuitive creation. Through textile art and drawing, I explores how aesthetics connect us to nature—not just as a concept but as an instinct deeply rooted in life’s evolution. Symmetry, color, and texture become shared languages, echoing the forces that shape our world, from microscopic organisms to expansive landscapes.
In this exhibition, I invite you into my experimental process, blending fabric and drawing to uncover a dreamlike yet organic world. My pieces transport us to silent, intricate spaces filled with forms that feel alive—plants, lichens, algae, and microscopic life.
“Thank You Cyanobacteria” pays homage to one of life’s earliest creators—the organisms that transformed Earth through photosynthesis billions of years ago. This collection reflects on resilience, transformation, and the interconnectedness of all living things.
During my time in Iceland, where I first learned hand-tufting techniques, these works emerged from my encounter with the island's distinctive light and landscape. This period marked a pivotal moment in my artistic journey, setting the foundation for my exploration of textile as a medium for emotional expression.
This collection investigates the unique interplay between sun and mountain at high altitudes and the equator. Through hand-tufted tapestries, I translate the distinctive quality of light where colors shift and transform, mirroring the way sunlight sculpts our perception of landscape throughout the day.
